35. So, when I die, what? Is there anything else afterwards?
Let me tell you something. His dad passed away or died last August 17. And he had had his father as someone very dear to him. He said – the son – he owed a lot to him, and had learned a great deal from him, now and since he was a child.
And his dad had wished to do in all the will of God, and was very devotee to the Holy Spirit, and frequented both the eucharist and the sacrament of confession.
It was not possible his father did not exist any more, any longer – he must be somewhere. Moreover that son believed his dad could already be in heaven, and he asked his dad for many little things, both material and spiritual – even he affirmed he had helped that son to bring some people back to God.
We Christians believe there’s something else after death. Well, many other people believe so, since we used to bury our dead ones with some utensils for the life beyond, since man is man on the surface of our planet.
But, Alas! We also believe everyone is rewarded or otherwise punished because of their deeds on earth in this life. And God wishes everyone be saved and arrive at the knowledge of truth. But if somebody persists to be lost for ever and ever in hell, well, God respects his will. Anyone who dies with a mortal sin and without repentance, God respects his freedom, and he will close himself in hell, apart from God, closing himself in hell, closing from inside – he does not wish to repent at all, he has decided to be condemned.
Well, you know, there’s also heaven, where the blessed ones will be with God for ever. We must take into account that apart from certain fire, the worst thing in hell is to be separated from God for ever, and man has been created to be close to God.
G. K. Chesterton converted to the Catholic faith, in 1922, mainly and among other resaons, because that faith and creed was the only one which provided with the sacrament of confession, where your sins are forgiven, also because you are so repented for them.
Well, finally those who die but have something to purify go to the purgatory, in case they have not been purified in this life. Only then will they enter heaven.
I’ve got to close this article. Let’s think of heaven, where eventually our body will unite to our soul again and live with God for ever and ever. Have a nice day, and let’s not forget how evil sin is – Jesus Christ has died on the cross to save us all, he died on an instrument, so dreadful, where only criminals were crossed, because they had done something so wrong.
